For my fellow adults living with Duchenne and Becker, today’s reality is vastly different from the one we were diagnosed into. We are living longer lives and feeling stronger while doing so. Many of us are graduating from college or grad school, becoming professionals and in some cases, starting families. Today, I am so excited to share with you that an anonymous member of our adult community has offered an additional $50,000 matching gift. This means that your gifts will continue to go twice as far through midnight on December 31st!
When I was diagnosed with Duchenne in 2005, no other therapeutic options existed besides steroids. I was six years old and began taking them almost immediately. Thanks to the tireless work of PPMD, the diagnostic journey, standards of care, and access to therapeutic options today look a lot different than they did 20 years ago. Now at 25, I am in my last year of pharmacy school, hoping to give back to the healthcare community that has given me so much. Though I’ve not qualified for many of the approved therapies to date, the progress we’ve made in understanding Duchenne and developing groundbreaking therapies fills me with hope as we look to the future.
The DCRN will help us better understand how more therapies can help more people faster. Help ensure PPMD reaches its $500,000 goal this holiday season. By harnessing technology, data, and the wealth of knowledge at our disposal, we can accelerate the advancement of both approved and investigational therapies, pushing science further at a faster pace. We need new research for our new reality.
