Race Athlete Spotlight: Matthew Colon

Meet Matthew Colon

Why did you choose to join the Race to End Duchenne team?

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy has given me hope for my sons future and for that, I am honored to be a part of the race to end Duchenne team.

How many races have you participated in?

I have completed two 5ks and one cycling event with the Race to End Duchenne team.

How do you prepare for races?

I can say that I have a strict training routine but that would be a lie. I am the father of a very active 2 year old. My training consists of many hikes and bike rides with my son. He doesn’t know it yet but he is the one that makes me stronger.

Do you have any fundraising and/or training tips or pointers you would share with other runners – either advice someone gave you or you’ve discovered on your own?

With fundraising and training persistence is key. Some days you raise a lot and that intimidating climb was a piece of cake while other days seem impossible. Just don’t give up.

What will be the first thing you do when you finish your next race?

The same thing that I do after every event. Give my son a big hug and a kiss!
