Meet Cheryl
Why did you choose to join the Race to End Duchenne team?
I chose to participate in the Race to End Duchenne to honor and support my son’s first childhood friend, Connor. He is an amazing person who continues to inspire me with his strength and perseverance in the face of this awful disease.
How many races have you participated in?
The NYC Bike Tour was my first race as part of the team.
How do you prepare for races?
To prepare for this race, I tried to gradually increase my time and distance on the bike, eat healthy and get lots of rest. A glass or two of wine before bedtime helps with the prerace jitters!
Do you have any fundraising and/or training tips or pointers you would share with other runners – either advice someone gave you or you’ve discovered on your own?
Fundraising is definitely challenging, considering the number of worthy causes out there! Ask family and friends for a donation in lieu of a birthday gift, see if your company will match and also try to gradually add your own money to your account using your own payment plan.
What will be the first thing you do when you finish your next race?
I hope to participate with my husband in next year’s race, and plan to do the same thing as I did this year when I finish….grab an ice-cold beer and enjoy food and comradery with my fellow riders!
