PPMD Advocacy in the 119th Congress and the 47th Administration

As the 119th Congress and the 47th Administration prepare to take office, PPMD is committed to furthering the needs of our community through comprehensive, creative, and tenacious advocacy on Capitol Hill, regardless of politics. Over the years, we have earned the trust and respect of legislators across the political spectrum to support our mission to accelerate groundbreaking research, influence critical policy, advocate for optimal care for every family, and ensure access to approved therapies. We look forward to continuing to amplify the voices of our community and drive meaningful change, together.

Read PPMD’s commitment statement:

For more than 30 years, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy has stood as a steadfast advocate for patients and families affected by Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. Our policy priorities are always guided by one principle: the fight to end Duchenne, not allegiance to any political party. In today’s increasingly polarized political landscape, we want to reassure our community that our commitment to advancing our advocacy goals remains unwavering. Together, we are united by purpose, not politics.

PPMD remains committed to our mission to accelerate groundbreaking research, influence critical policy, advocate for optimal care for every family, and ensure access to approved therapies. Over the years, we have earned the trust and respect of legislators across the political spectrum. Thanks to our comprehensive federal advocacy strategy and tireless advocates, our legislative priorities consistently garner strong bipartisan support, resulting in numerous landmark successes in Congress. PPMD will continue to fight for our top legislative priorities, including:

  • Expanding access to comprehensive care;
  • Promoting timely diagnosis;
  • Advancing science and research;
  • Supporting therapeutic development; and
  • Supporting caregivers.

As we approach the 119th Congress and the incoming Trump Administration, PPMD remains dedicated to working collaboratively across the aisle to achieve our shared goals. We recognize opportunities and have found success in finding common ground with policymakers from both sides of the aisle. With new leadership taking the helm at federal agencies, PPMD is committed to maintaining effective communication and collaboration with agency staff to ensure their work continues to serve the needs of our community.

Should policies be considered that would reduce access to healthcare, such as loosening certain regulation of private insurance or reducing access to Medicaid, we will voice our opposition. Similarly, PPMD will oppose drastic cuts to federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as those agencies are critical to supporting federal research and ensuring access to safe and effective medications.

PPMD is committed to furthering the needs of our community through comprehensive, creative, and tenacious advocacy on Capitol Hill, regardless of politics. To our passionate advocates: thank you for your unwavering dedication. We look forward to continuing to amplify your voices and drive meaningful change, together.
