The days leading up to the New Year are always a time of reflection for me. Since 1994 when my mother founded PPMD, my life has been intertwined with the organization. As we head into 2024 and mark 30 years of PPMD and the immense strides we’ve made together as a community, I’m reminded of all that has changed since those early days.

One driving hope has remained constant however: to improve quality of life for those living with Duchenne and their families, and help each and every member of this community lead lives that are full of happiness.

As a member of the Board of Directors, a Duchenne sibling, and the daughter of PPMD’s Founding President Pat Furlong, I have had the unique privilege of witnessing every challenge, every display of resilience, and every accomplishment this community has made together in the last three decades. I’m proud to have witnessed how your belief in PPMD made the accelerated approval of the first gene therapy for Duchenne a reality, and I look forward to further progress as we usher in another decade of support for this community.

PPMD has a goal to raise $500,000 by midnight tomorrow to support the Gene Therapy Initiative aimed at broadening access to these treatments.
